Community Fund

The Rio Tinto Community Fund was established in 2002. The Community Fund promotes active partnerships that are based on mutual commitment, trust and openness. To support our operations now and in planning for future closure we support community based projects that can make a difference in a sustainable way without creating dependency. We believe that understanding community need and investing in the root cause of the identified problem is the best way we can help our community. To ensure the board makes informed decisions we build knowledge, engage stakeholders and then develop solutions through active partnerships. We’re here to help make our community stronger.

Since the Fund was launched, $6 million has been committed to a range of community projects. This funding has also helped community organisations attract additional grants and contributions to projects, in excess of $10 million.

The Rio Tinto Community Fund has supported 42 individual projects.
